Aqua Shield Waterproofing Membrane

Shower waterproofing is one of the most important steps in the shower installation process.  Without shower waterproofing, your tile shower is susceptible to mold, mildew, and many problems down the road.  We suggest using a waterproofing membrane called Aqua Shield.

Because Tile Redi Shower Pans are already waterproof, there is no need for additional waterproofing on the pan itself.  However, this does not hold true for your shower walls.  They must be waterproofed to ensure a 100% leak-proof shower assembly.

Waterproofing membranes such as Aqua Shield are installed directly over cement board with a modified thinset mortar.  Aqua Shield waterproofing membrane is a high tensile strength, vapor barrier that ensures a long lasting protection from moisture penetration for continuously wet areas such as shower stalls and bathrooms.  One common misconception is that cement board is sufficient as a waterproofer for tile showers. Cement board is water resistant, not waterproof.  You'll need to waterproof your walls before the installation of your tile.  Anybody can make a shower look beautiful from the outside.  However, it is what is on the inside that truly matters.  Do yourself a favor and get some Aqua Shield for your shower walls.
